More Sala fee drama.

I'm sure there were allegations previously about Nantes illegally backdating documents
If there's any evidence that emerges around that, then there's no chance that the transfer could've been legal.

That then makes a lot of sense - club needed to go own the route it has to "force" payment to Nantes to then have the case to sue Nantes.

Re-reading the club statement, I think maybe I was underestimating the significance.

Look at the alleged offences - fraud, money laundering but most importantly, forgery. IF and as you can see it's a big if, documentation by Nates was forged with regards to the transfer then it's absolutely clear that Sala could never have been our player, irrespective of signing any contract with us, because the transfer could not legally have occurred given Nantes negotiated using deception with faked documents.

That blows the whole thing wide open.

It would be fantastic if that was the case, but I think you're reading too much into this.

The French investigation, which has been going on for at least six years*, appears to be taking in a very wide range of accusations, presumably in connection with a number of transfers and other transactions. If there was any discrepancy with pertinent Sala paperwork, you'd have hoped that City's legal team would have flagged that to the FA/FIFA/CAS already.

*see this article from 3 years ago: "The national financial prosecutor’s office in 2017 also opened an investigation into suspicions of tax fraud targeting Waldemar Kita, the president of FC Nantes." : -

I'm not so sure.

Investigating Kita, sure, pre-dates things.

The fact is though that two named agents from the Sala deal were also arrested. I've little doubt the Sala deal is just one part of it all.
