I've just posted this on CCMB - thanks if you've supported the blog over the past fifteen years.

This has just come about within the last couple of hours, but, from today, I will not be publishing anything else on Mauve and Yellow Army unless there is someone on here who can sort out the problem I have encountered this morning.

When I tried to log in this morning to do the latest Seven decades quiz the following appeared;-,
"
"There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress."

Apparently, this is a fairly common happening which can be fixed, but not by someone with my limited knowledge of things like FTP sites. I look at the complicated instructions on fixing it that I've come across and think even if I knew what they were talking about, is it worth the effort? On balance, I still think it is, but I must admit that the last few years worth of awful football and poor decision making by the club means that I answer that question with a lot less enthusiasm than I once would have.

So, if you are one of those generous people who have been supporting the blog through a monthly standing order, you should cancel it - thank you all very much for your support down the years.

Before Mauve and Yellow Army started in 2009, I used to do reaction pieces on here and my plan is to go back to doing them from now on, so I will still be posting reaction pieces and I'll keep on doing quizzes for the handful(!) who bother with them. In that respect, nothing will change if you were someone who used to access my Mauve and Yellow Army pieces on here. I'll also keep on posting something on the colonel's site, I can post links to the thread on here on Twitter and I think I should be able to keep on putting something on Patreon, so I think everyone who accessed Mauve and Yellow Army should have a way of still accessing what I write if they want to."

Did they send you instructions on how to fix it?

The site appears to be up at the moment. Is it just when you are trying to make changes? Is it worth trying to archive some older stuff maybe? Not sure if there are set limits.

So I see the website itself is still running, you're just unable to log in to the back end to publish articles?

Do you pay a hosting company to host your website?

So sorry to hear about that Bob. It’s also sad that our performance on the field has drained the joy. I hope you find a benevolent techy guy. @.Colonel maybe a chance to form some kind of partnership with the blog?

If the problems are insurmountable or more effort than it's worse maybe you could post as free text here and use the share button to disseminate to people on your circulation list?

Just had a look and by using the share button once posted you could go to WhatsApp, email and various social media sites.

Might not be the answer but seems easy, viable and free.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The blog is still there and can be read as normal, but when I try to log in to post another piece or answer some feedback, I get that message about a critical error. I‘ve got a contract with a web hosting company and have contacted them only to be told they had an ongoing issue which means they couldn’t help me at that time, so I’m wondering if it may be related to that.
Abyway, a few people on the other board have said that they think it might be a fairly easy problem to resolve and Mike Morris has said, he’ll have a look to see if he can sort it, so, with a bit of luck, I’ll be able to start posting on there again soon.

Sounds to me like it could be a widespread issue based on that. Hopefully it gets fixed for you.

That's nice of Mike. As long as you don't end up with 196 adverts popping up all over your content before anyone's had the chance to read anything.

Good news everyone (well, maybe not everyone, I'm sure there are those who don't like my blog), I had an on line chat with the hosting company and they were able to fix the problem, so the blog is up and running again. I've no idea what the problem was or how they fixed it, but, having checked what wasn't working before, it all seems fine now.

Nice one, it would help if their error messages were more meaningful.

I made a critical error that couldn't be fixed in May 1966 in going to watch City v Middlesbro'.

Life hasn't been the same since
