Four shots in the night by Henry Hemming. About the IRA "Stakeknife" murder. I heard him do a talk about it recently. It's supposed to give an in depth account of Martin McGuinness. A very complex character who was a cold-blooded killer but also one of the main reasons we've got peace in NI today.

Just ordered this about the spud shortage in Ireland, supposed to be very good. Reckon it explains why some of the Irish aren't too fond of the english.

I enjoyed Stant's account as it goes. Just a chapter about the accounts of a random soldier. The main thing I remember of his account is eating steaks from a cow that got shot by a plane and the farmer going mental at them

It would have cost the British state thousands of £s to stop the famine. Shameful. I have an Irish friend (who I'm meeting in Bristol before the Wurzel game) and his grandmother in Derry remembers the Black and Tans ransacking their house and beating up the men. We didn't do ourselves any favours.

Just finished Avocado. Good story. Funny as you'd expect.

I found it far too patchy and gave up. Brilliant when good but big chunks left me cold. I think his war diaries are superb
