Football After this season's accomplishments, where does BBM rank in the list of City managers?

I think he’ll rise faster than us ultimately

With that I’ve made my peace

Would you say even more than in the 90s when we didn't have a pot to piss in though, or even the likes of Lennie Lawrence when we went up to the Championship originally though?

I think like you say it's definitely early to judge on a few things like whether his relative (to recent years) lack of activity/confusing activity in both transfer windows he's had so far has been down to financial considerations alone or if he's ridiculously picky about who he brings in to the club, but I think a season is a good enough of a baseline to see how he responds to adversity or how he does when all is going well.

For me I'd rather have BBM and the culture and tactics he's set since he arrived here (even with bugger all money) than some of the managers we've had and given ridiculous budgets to in the past.
Good point about Lennie, but tbf, nobody (outside of the premier league) had much money in those days.
In recent times, Warnock saved us then got us promoted but he spent a few quid doing so.
You could argue that BBM has got lucky inheriting some great youth players, but other than Osho, I don’t think he’s spent anything.

Think I read the other day that Birmingham and Wrexham spent a combined £30m getting out of this league. Us and Lincoln have done it on less than £2m combined.

I've mentioned the lack of Plan B previously and think everyone is pretty much on the same page about that. Hopefully he'll have improved squad and evolved his tactics by August
No plan B was Dave Jones’s biggest fault

Was infuriating how more limited sides could tactically outmanoeuvre us and leave us completely second best in big games
It's up there with the complete lack of conditioning in his teams.

I saw a Jon Parkin podcast talking about how Dave Jones ran his pre seasons - just one massive piss up. Every year we'd be top at the start of November and would just completely disintegrate after that. As predictable as the sun coming up.

Discipline a massive problem with his teams

No 1 Eddie May.....Just cause I was young and alive and he just made everyone smile. Things started happening around the place.

That probably has to be my favourite too. My first proper promotion

Warnock had to be right up there considering he saved us from relegation and then got us promoted.
Frank Burrows was good
Len Ashurst ok.in.his day.
But to do what BBM had done on a shoestring and with local boys out guns them all imo.
We need to be careful because other owners must be impressed.
Tan should sort him out a nice bonus and a much improved contract. To show he is valued.
My biggest worry is that he could leave it there is lack of investment.

Never go over the top to keep any player/manager, things can go wrong just as easily.

Remember when we were ready to riot if VT sold Zohore, glad to see the back of him a few months later.

Warnock made a big difference before even achieving promotion. His attitude, some of the players he brought in and the way he got the team battling helped heal a fan base that has been pretty fractured and disillusioned. He made it fun to go down the City again and fans weren't sniping at each other anywhere near as much. The promotion season was a slog after the first few months, which were class.

The downsides of Warnock are well known but he helped breathe life back to a club in the doldrums

Tan has had plenty experience in picking poor managers. Apart from Warnock.
The law of averages say he was bound to find a good one. If I was him I would hold onto him with both hands.
Its a bigger sign of ambition than going out and signing new players.
But I do see your point.

Most clubs have made their share of bad appointments. Morrison was decent for a while and Bulut seems to have been a good appointment but something clearly went seriously wrong about halfway into his first season

I'm sure we'll try to keep hold of him and I'm sure he'll get some sort of bonus for the work he's done. Just think that no matter how much money you throw at someone, if a more attractive offer comes in for them, in terms of team, their heads can still be turned.

He's been given a good opportunity here without much interference so as long as he's on a fair wage, that's about as much as we can do.

Likewise Malky was very well supported by the fabs but ultimately it was him who made his position untenable.
