Is it just me, or are clubs still a bit dense 🤔 ,with ffp in full force, I see teams still doing 4 & 5 year contracts 👀👀 if things don't work out in 1st season, for whatever reason, they are then likely stuck with that player, or have to mutually agree a termination of contract, thus paying the player a chunk of what he'd have earned! I just don't get it, who is in control of these clubs finances? Unless your buying a superstar, that you want nobody else to have ala Madrid v bale, it's gonna cost the club.

But with short contracts it's very difficult to leverage a fee. Bosman did a lot for players earning power but made things much harder for clubsm

You are correct👍🏻 but I'd offer no more than 3 yrs, if a player is living up to expectations, maybe offer an extension at the end of 1st year. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I can't get bacuna & a couple of others, out of my head! Suppose it works both ways, a long contract can as you say, give you leverage, but by the same token, can also lump you with a dead weight for years to come.
